Custom-Made Triple Bunk Beds

In our old house we had a nice bunk bed for Mira and Stella, and Lyra had a single bed on the opposite wall.  In the new house we had dreams of a triple bunk bed that they could all share.

So Howard thought upon it; got creative; came to a vision; and went to work.

Like all of our renovations, we enlisted the help of our family and friends and are forever indebted to them for helping make this house into Our Home.

The finish line is in sight!

Home Sweet Bed!

Everyone had a hand in helping.

I should make note that the beds are not “completely” done.  Howard still wants to add some finishing touches to it– some decorative pieces here and there.  We’re still toying with the canopy and plan on adding some sort of decorative fringe to it, as well as painting the rods white to match the rest of the bed.  {I’ll keep you posted on updates and pictures}

But for the most part-  TA DA!

The girls showing off the ladder/stairs

Coordinating Nanny-made quilts keep my girls happily ensconced in their favorite color every night.

And yes, from this angle I realize the blades of the fan look scary close.  Rest assured the fan isn’t as close as this image makes it appear; and also that we do plan on switching the fan out for one of those hugger types with smaller blades.  And before I get emails or comments on the dangers of bunk beds, we have strict rules about them and Howard has the bed securely fastened to the wall.

My biggest concern at this point is teaching the girls how to make their beds.  Cause making these bad boys every morning is getting old.real.quick.

So cute!!! I love it! How tall are your ceilings to accommodate this? I have 3 boys and I am sure they would love something like this!

    • Kristen says:

      Hi Erin!
Our ceilings here are 10 feet tall. The lowest bed’s mattress is literally just a few inches off the ground. If you guys end up making one I’d love to see what you come up with. We’re still doodling around with ideas for decorating ours a bit. I’ll be sure to post updates when the room is all finished.

These are amazing and super cute! I am in awe of anyone who can construct, well, pretty much anything, so this blows my mind!

  9. Tim says:

These look great! do you happen to have any plans / dimensions available? Also, how tall is your ceiling? Thanks for the inspiration =)

    • Kristen says:

      Hi Tim,
My husband didn’t follow any plans but I can ask him to get me the dimensions for you. We currently live in a home with a 10 foot ceiling so we were able to fit these in with more than enough room on top.

  10. My two sisters and I would have LOVED these when we were growing up! The paint theme is so happy, lucky girls!

Do you have any plans or dimension. I have 3 girls and 2 boys and this would be so great in their rooms because they have very small rooms.

Love this! We have 5 kids. 3 boys in 1 room. A set of bunk beds and a single twin bed. Is it possible to use the beds we currently have and some how make the triple bunk beds?

  17. Stellar Progenitor says:

To everyone that has asked for dimensions; my apologies for not having replied sooner but life has left little time to offer a proper reply.

In short, I do not have any plans. I built it in my head as I went.

Now that it is relatively complete, I can at least attempt to offer some diagrams of what it looks like and how it was built. With the Christmas Holidays now here, I will make some time to crank out some diagrams.

Look for a post coming up soon.

  18. Danica says:

I would love to get the plans/dimensions as well. thanks!

FINALLY!!! We have a little cabin that we converted a large hall closet into a kids room. We have tried the bunk with trundle which just got in the way. With three kids and one wall we thought “hey, triple bunks” but had yet to find any great inspiration or resemblance of what I have envisioned…until now. These are awesome. just need a little tweak on the ladder (to be on the front, not the side – easy 😉 )!! Thank you for your creativity and for sharing.

Have your daughters make the beds, Navy style, just use large sheets and have them tie knots on the bottom sheet in either the corners or at the top of the bed. easy to do and in remaking the bed, you can just pull the sheets off and unknot them prior to washing..

  21. Melissa says:

This is a great idea. My husband has been wanting to build bunk beds for our boys, we have 3 in one room. We havent been able to find any plans or how to’s out there. Came here because it was posted as a How-To Build Project but I see its not really. Are there any dimensions or plans or site that was used in making this? We need to find something ASAP as I am a few days from giving birth to #4.

  22. Kyle says:

Would love to see plans/diagram as well when it’s available… 🙂

  23. Jami says:

I love these beds! I also have 3 daughters, and we are trying to find a set of triple bunkbeds for the girls. We want them to stay in the same room. Any chance of getting the measurements of how your husband built these beds?!

    Thank you

  24. Karen says:

I have three girls and I love this idea we are expecting our forth one and this would be perfect for their room and I wanted to ask if I can get measurements for building them so my husband can start? Thanks and what a great idea.

  25. Mary Otero says:
