Whew- a whole week and no posts! I apologize for the lapse in regular posting but I’ve been in the thick of it with homeschooling. It’s odd really, we aren’t doing anything additional or out of the ordinary and yet I feel extremely busy and haven’t been able to carve out any blogging time.
The girls have been having a good week. Mira completed one of her Miquon math books. She currently only does Miquon on Fridays as part of our Math Play Day. Miquon isn’t her main math resource but a fun supplement that we couldn’t imagine not utilizing.
Stella had a milestone all her own too. She finished her Sing, Spell, Read and Write workbook. We had to take a break from All About Reading when it hit rhyming. I realized she was memorizing the answers to the rhyming games but wasn’t really making the connection to what actually made the words rhyme. So we took a break and started Sing, Spell, Read, and Write (SSRW). I had an old beginner’s workbook that I had picked up at a used curriculum sale. It wasn’t the whole program, but Stella had a lot of fun and it proved to be a perfect detour for us. Now I’m debating on starting her up on All About Reading again or possibly beginning the Explode the Code series with her. I’ll be getting out my supplies over the weekend, looking them over, and making my decision on what we’ll start with next week.
And that’s it. Just a normal homeschooling week that kept me busy.

Sometimes the usual is busy enough! So glad to hear how much your girls like Miquon. I just bought it based partly on your review in an earlier post. Can I ask you some questions like what age did you start using the orange book at and do I need to buy the first grade diary or will the lab annotations book be enough to get us started?
I am SUCH a math phobic person that for me I really needed both the annotations and the diary. I’m sure someone savvier (or even just more confident) with mathematics than I would easily be able to work it out. But I find myself routinely referring to both of them for different things. Also, keep in mind that the workbooks aren’t exactly linear. You don’t have to finish one before moving into the next one. She is already about 1/2 done with the red book too. I jump back and forth with her, but Orange is definitely more of a ‘beginning’ one. And if I had to get just one to start with it would be Orange.
Thanks so much! I bought the first four books and the lab annotations as a used set. I think I’ll try to pick up the First Grade Diary too. I’m also a bit math phobic!
I just looked back at that earlier post – the pre-miquon book looks like the perfect place for us to start – and we might also need to get some chopsticks. Your blog has been so helpful to me! Thank you!
What is Stella’s main math resource? Are you also using Singapore?
Oops, what is Mira using for math other than Miquon? Sorry!
Mira is currently using Singapore in addition to Miquon and our random resource (like games, computer games, apps, etc). You can see the rest of her curriculum and resources for First Grade here.
Hope that helps!
